GINGHAM GARMENTS
Gingham Garments consists of three designs: two dresses and a top, all made from organic cotton gingham. The initial studies of shape and form were based on an established dogma that dictated the use of squared pieces of fabric in order to minimize off-cut waste during production. Creating based on a dogma that dictates certain limitations forces the process and mind to approach things differently, allowing the fabric itself to influence the creative process. The designs evolve through interaction between draping, pattern construction, and sketching. Each design is a result of experimentation and careful consideration.
The iconic gingham check accentuates the squared pattern pieces of each garment, and shows where shape was needed to accommodate a body in motion. Elastic casings emphasize the wearer and allow the body to sculpt the garment, while textile manipulation in the form of pin tucks creates volume and adds texture to the garments.
